Can I start a VA loan before I PCS to my new base?
Yes. Scott works with military families remotely and can get you pre-approved before you arrive at your new duty station. Many families close on their home before or shortly after arriving.
Can I use my BAH to qualify for a VA loan?
Yes. Your Basic Allowance for Housing is tax-free income that counts toward VA loan qualification. Use our BAH Calculator to look up your 2026 rate by ZIP code and pay grade.
Do I have to live near the base to use a VA loan?
No. You can use a VA loan to buy a home anywhere in the state where your lender is licensed. TrueVet Mortgage is licensed in both Florida and Texas.
Can I use my VA loan benefit more than once?
Yes. VA loan benefits are reusable. You can use your benefit multiple times, and in some cases you can have more than one VA loan active at the same time.
What if I’m retiring or separating from the military?
Veterans are eligible for VA loans after separation. You will need your DD-214 and a Certificate of Eligibility. Scott can help you obtain your COE and guide you through the process.
Does my spouse qualify for a VA loan?
Surviving spouses of service members who died in the line of duty or from a service-connected disability may be eligible. Active-duty spouses may also qualify in certain situations.
How long does it take to close a VA loan?
TrueVet Mortgage typically closes VA loans in 21 to 30 days, depending on appraisal scheduling, title work, and borrower documentation.
Is there a VA funding fee?
Yes, unless you are exempt. Veterans with a service-connected disability rating of 10% or more are exempt from the funding fee. The fee can be financed into the loan.
